Welcome to Harmetronome

The purpose of this web application is to help the teaching of driven harmonic oscillations and resonance. A full description of its potential uses is discussed in this article . The name "harmetronome" makes reference to the metronome that helps musicians to keep the pace at a chosen beat rate.

Menu description:

Oscillator

The place where the harmonic oscillations are performed on a black circle. Its oscillation frequency or period can be changed by clicking on the oscillation slider at the right side of the screen. A reference ruller is displayed in the middle of the screen. It can be disabled by unckecking it in the Config menu.

Settings (Initial value)

Initial value of the oscillation slider in the Oscillator window.

Settings (Step size)

Step size of the oscillation slider in the Oscillator window.

Settings (Number of steps)

Number of steps of the oscillation slider in the Oscillator window.

Settings (Final value)

Final value of the oscillation slider in the Oscillator window calculated from the three above parameters.

Settings (Amplitude of oscillation)

Changes the amplitude of the black circle on the screen and its middle position.

Settings (Measure)

Changes the unit of measurement.

Settings (Show ruler)

Enable or disable a reference ruller in the Oscillator window.
